TransEd is an online learning platform targeted at providing post-secondary healthcare students with tools to improve comfort and competence in transgender care. The project is a collaborative effort between the McMaster University Department of Family Medicine and Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine and the University of Waterloo School of Pharmacy. It is supported by funding from Ontario's Ministry of Training, Colleges & Universities (MTCU).

TransEd’s unique features include:

  • Modular design: Learners can complete any or all of TransEd's 8 sections (Introduction, The Healthcare Landscape, Clinical Best Practices, Assessment, Psychosocial Health, Medication, Surgical & Resources). Users can pick topics that are most relevant to them while having the convenience of learning at their own pace and in their own environment. Each section includes multiple choice questions to assess learning with explanations to clarify any misunderstandings.
  • Lived Experience: Interviews with trans men and women talking about their interactions and experiences with the healthcare system as well as clips from healthcare providers specializing in trans care.
  • Best Practices: Comprehensive guidelines and important considerations for providing optimal care to trans patients, from how to create welcoming spaces to understanding transition options.

For educators we've also created a Facilitators Guide which offers additional content and videos along with suggestions for blended learning activities. Our goal is to make it easy for you to integrate TransEd into existing curricula incorporating those components that have most benefit for your learners.

TransEd is freely available to interested healthcare programs.
